See you later, NOVA…this show actually makes science/technology/research seem kind of fun

better-off-tedIn case you haven’t seen the heavily-in-rotation promos for the new ABC series, “Better Off Ted” (premieres March 18 @ 8:30 PM ET/PT), then it’s a really good thing you are reading this blog right now as I’m about to tell you how awesome the show looks.

The “satirical office series” (official ABC show description jargon) stars Jay Harrington as Ted, who runs research and development at a company called Veridian Dynamics, the lovely Portia de Rossi stars as his boss, and there are no limits to what this company will try to do (again, pulled from the ABC show description):

No achievement is too far-fetched and no invention too unorthodox for Veridian. Need cow-less meat grown in a test tube? Done. Need pumpkins that also double as weapons of mass destruction? No problem.

*Sigh* they had me at cow-less meat grown in a test tube…anyway, I have high hopes for this show (so don’t go screwing it up, ABC) as it’s a fresh idea for a situation comedy, and the writing/acting looks very promising–lots of smug, smart-assy, deadpan jokes that I like. It should also be noted that the kids behind this show have reputable TV pedigree as they were writers and/or producers of the critically-acclaimed TV series, “My Name is Earl” and “Andy Richter Controls the Universe.”

Ok, if my compelling summary hasn’t convinced you, then watch the outstanding clip below (it starts out as an ad for Veridian Dynamics and then goes into the show promo)–enjoy!
